Baby Moon

These little guys look like wild onion weeds early, but they are so cute. About the size of a quarter and really late for a daff. In the background is rabbit guard, because the larkspur in this bed was taking a beating.

Ajuga at its Best

It looks beautiful right now. It will get ratty, of course, but I still like it. The hosta at the top is Yabba Dabba Do, and the little guy at the bottom is a weed. One of about a million that are growing out there.

Pasque Flower

Last year mama and I went to the Farm really early in the season. They had a beautiful purple flower blooming, and we had no idea what it was. We asked, and the lady told us it was a pasque flower. When we later stopped at Greenview, there is was! So we bought one. It doesn't bloom long, but it is so sweet in the early early spring when not much else is blooming. This shot was taken a couple of weeks ago, and it's mostly gone already. Still, a terrific early bloomer.

Narcissis Silver Chimes

These will definitely be on my reorder list this fall. They're from John Scheeper's, are just now blooming, and have five to nine blooms per stem. This bouquet is made up of sticks and only three stems of flowers.

New Birdhouse

Mark built this for me over the winter. He would want me to take credit for designing and painting the sun/flower/whatever-it-is decoration, since it's not really his style. But I love it! And a couple of birds have already found it. They were checking it out this morning. Thank you, Mark!

The tulip combos at the botanical garden were awesome. Incredible. All underplanted with pansies. I don't think I'd want to put all that work into this kind of bed in the yard, but it would make a killer container for the front porch. I'll have to put that on my to-do list for next spring.

This statue, at the Missouri Botanical Garden, was a gift from the people of Zimbabwe to the US after 9/11. It's so pretty. I wish I could work with stone like that.

Daffodil Show

We went to the daffodil show at the Missouri Botanical Garden yesterday. They hadn't finished judging when we were there, so best in show hadn't been chosen yet. I don't know how anyone would ever be able to choose. We overheard the judges. Everytime they looked at a group, they would ask, "Which one is the worst? Okay, now which one is the worse?" How could you pick a "worst"? They were all beautiful. Mark said they started to all look alike after we had looked at about five hundred. I didn't see a bad one in the bunch.

Don't know the name. My 2006 garden resolution is to keep all the labels, tags, and shipping receipts. Come to think of it, that might have been last year's resolution too. . .

Minnow

These just have to be the cutest daffodils ever. They are less than an inch in diamater, about six inches tall. So sweet. I wish I had planted a hundred of them. Baby Moon is in the background, and they're pretty sweet too.

Coming and Going (Already)

The baby daffs are gone and going to seed. I need to deadhead them. The rhodedendrums are blooming and are so pretty. This little birdbath is one that Lori gave me several years ago. She gave me a new one for my birthday too. I'll post a picture of that one, too. It's beautiful.

This is always the first container of the year. Kelly and I have started our traditional morning walks through the garden. It's still pretty cold, but wonderful to be able to go out every morning.
