Fall & Halloween Report

Is fall really over and it's time to get ready for the holidays? Apparently so!

Mama's little witch made into a wreath.
I love these ferns in the front pot.  I can't find the pic with fall leaves woven through.  I think these will get to stay through the winter and into next summer.

Isaac grew this pumpkin, he had an amazing garden this year!
Another of Isaac's pumpkins for Thanksgiving.  The plan is to cook this one!

Found in a tub down in the basement--Isaac's Mario Eldwin.  He'll go to Oceanna for her third birthday coming up. He makes my heart sing, she will love him.

Fall 2021

Murphy is growing growing and he has the funniest howl!  I call him Superman because he can fly faster than a speeding bullet!
Fall front door garden. . .

The front door morphing into Halloween. . .

Mama's cute witch. . .
Look how big he is!  Fifty-seven pounds this morning.
The pumpkins have been morphing too, I love the feathers :)

November Thursday

Rachel's front door.  I had a great time making this one, although I wonder how many of those hundred-and-something ornaments have popped off.  I started out wiring every one, then towards the end the trusty glue pot came to the rescue.

It's a Thursday and I'm sitting on the couch watching Young and the Restless.  Reminds me of being in college . . . Victor has lots of wrinkles now but it's still the same story they were telling in the 70's when I was at UK.  And he's still the bad guy you love to hate.

I ran a few errands this morning and stopped in Buckley's garden center.  Such a surprise to find an iris in full bloom.  What?!?  On the sale table. What!?!    The label says "reliable rebloomer."  So I brought it home and dressed it up.   If you know me you know that I've taken  most of my iris out over the last few years.   But if this one will bloom in the fall like this, I think I can find a place for it.

November Update

And yet another arrangement inspired by Francois Weeks.  Fall seems like it's flown away and here we are getting ready for Thanksgiving.
Isaac will be here any day.  And then in another few weeks, Skye!
She's recuperating from pneumonia so we'll have to wait a bit for her to be well enough to leave her foster care home.  We are so excited!

Garden Harvest

On this second Monday of retirement,  I had a nice breakfast with my friend Gail.  We talked gardening and family and The Farm and politics and whatever crossed our minds.  And then I went home and made this wreath from all the sedum and amaranthus in the garden.  I think retirement is going to work out okay:)

Fall 2014

 Last garden vase of 2014.
Anemones.
Fall-blooming, long lasting in the garden & in the vase.
And they dry well!  Who knew?

We had to say goodbye to our sweet Lilla.  We miss her terribly.  She livened everything up because she believed with all her heart that everyone was just so happy to see her!  G is our big strong brave boy--he's his usual quiet self but always ready to play (unless he's sleepy--a guy has to get his beauty sleep!).  He is getting even more loving and people food these days.  A dog makes life better.
And so do anenomes.

Fall Flowers

Last of the fall flowers from the October garden.
It's been a very nice gardening year.
Today, we have snow.

Garden Visitors

Five deer visited our neighbors yard a couple of weeks ago, no doubt finding a good breakfast.  I wonder when they will jump our little fence?  G dog and Lilla missed the whole visit.  They were inside snoozing!

The. Best. Ever.

I have the best. sister. ever.  She gave me this gorgeous old birdcage and it has to be the best. birdcage. ever.!  I can't remember ever seeing one so nice.  I love it.  Thank you sissy!
Our inspiration picture was a birdcage filled with succulents, but this one turned out even better.  It has our mammy's old birdhouse inside surrounded by pansies, pumpkins, and hen&chicks from mama.  It's a family project :)
Sneaked this little shot of mama and PJ while we were at the Meijer Gardens.

November Saturday Project

Two months ago, I stopped at Greenview and bought daffodil bulbs and pansies, just because I was feeling sad  and  wanted to treat myself to a little garden therapy.   They've been sitting, waiting patiently ever since. . .

The weather was gorgeous today, so today was the day!  Two different kinds of yellow daffodils and purple & orange pansies, planted in a pot, and tucked into the compost pile..

Mark covered them over with more leaves so they'll be snug for the winter. The first of March, we'll dig up the pot  and hopefully we'll have a nice bulb garden  for spring :)
