June 2018 Report

June was a whirlwind!  I got to go  see my mama and my sissy PJ.  We went to see the peonies together--one of our favorite June things to do:

Mama's garden is always impressive--she's an urban farmer :)

We picked strawberries every day :)
It was chilly while I was there, so I didn't get out much in PJ's garden.  It's beautiful as always too.  I love this little shot here:
And all of us together here! My sister can always make me laugh :)
Then Mark and I went to KetoCon in Austin to hang out with our keto peeps and learn more about low carb-high fat eating and healing.  This was our second year to go and I can't wait to go again next year.

Early morning walk along the lake with a skyline view.
Hanging out with the coaches.
Mark and Sabrina, one of our fellow keto coaches. We're all hanging out together on the computer all the time, but it was great to meet in person and get to know each other a little more.
with Mitzi, another coach
And I got to meet Dr Berry!  Wow!  and his wife Neisha.
They are helping so many people.  Look him up!
We ate really good while we were there!  Bunless burgers, buffalo ribeye, rattlesnack/rabbit/boar fettine, and oh yes, barbeque!

And we got to see Denise and meet her children with Uncle David, Aunt Fina.
It was a fabulous trip.  And it was good to be back home in the garden :)

Michigan June

A few pictures from the birthday celebration in Michigan:
Not one, but TwO birthday cakes :)
Where's Ray??
Rachel posted this sweet birthday message
My mama has been urban gardening ever since she was transplanted to Michigan 40+ years ago.  It's amazing to see how many vegetables & flowers she can grow on her little plot.  The strawberries were delicious!  They were my splurge instead of cake this year.
If we look a little sad here, it's because we were saying good-bye.  It's always hard to leave.  Time to plan the next visit!

In the Garden with Peggy

My mom has a small farm in her backyard garden--strawberries and raspberries and green beans, corn, okra and tomatoes and peas, and of course, gorgeous flowers.  Her pond is the focal point--she's one of the original upcyclyers and repurposers :-)  Love her  custom-made fences of sticks and jute.
Here she is with Charlie in the garden.  Last year they made a cute little video of one of their harvests.  Maybe they'll do that again this year?!

Peggy's Garden

It was so nice to sit in the garden every morning drinking coffee with my mama. Perfect moments.

Happy Birthday!

Today is Peggy's birthday. This picture was taken in 1975, in the back yard of the house on highway 60. I love you mama!

Pictures from Peggy's

A new kitten named Walker, after the Texas Ranger guy. Because this little guy has a BIG personality, evident even from all these miles away. And the yard looks great--even in September.

Mama's August Pond

Isn't this wonderful? Wow! Love the tidal wave petunias spilling over the tub. Love the umbrella. And that Joe Pye is monstrous! Wish I were there this morning. I think I'll call her right now.

Peggy's Garden

Here's a great picture of mama's garden. Here's what she said: "You can see my ladder with birdhouse and my fishes umbrella, they need some sunglasses now. Also you can see my frog Gail got for me in the petunias and I think those are Beverly Sills iris maybe?" Looks like them to me. Love that blue paint too!

Yellow in the Michigan Gardens

These shots are from PJ and mama's gardens, taken a few weeks ago. I'm sure everything has changed so much since I was there. PJ gave me a "little leo" leapord's bane, which I've never noticed before. It was really showy in her early spring garden. And the shot of the yucca with creeping Jenny is from mama's garden. I love the combination.

Impatients and Pansies

This is a little spot under Mama's New Dawn. The middle container was made by Jay Parkes. I bet the oil can came from granddaddy's filling station.

From mama's garden

The top container has a sweet little plant called maidenhair vine. I'll have to look for it too. Mama has a very green thumb and has inspired both me and my sister PJ to plant, plant, plant. Actually, we come from an even longer line of gardening women. Mammy and grandma would be loving all these flowers. Now granddaddy felt differently about flowers--we would be hiding the oil can from him.
